Rethinking Rehab

Eliminating pain is the first step to getting back to activity, but without addressing the root cause of your symptoms the likelihood of injury recurrence increases. Physical therapy can help to address your underlying dysfunction, restore normal movement, and enhance performance to help you safely return to your sport.

By developing a structured program that is tailored to you we will help you optimize your fitness and prevent injury recurrence to keep you healthy for the long run.

At Cornerstone Performance and Physical Therapy we strive to be an integral part of your team to facilitate your success. Our goal is to provide you with ongoing support throughout your recovery process to help you reach your performance goals.

Rehab shouldn't stop once you feel better.

Dry Needling

This microtrauma to the muscle can produce pain following intense exercise and is a normal experience for athletes.

Differentiating between normal and abnormal pain is hard. It can be an expected side effect of being active, but it could also be a warning sign of future tissue damage. Managing these symptoms is essential to prevent further harm and stay injury free.

Dry needling is an extremely effective treatment of musculoskeletal pain. It involves inserting a thin filiform needle directly into a trigger point in a muscle to release it. This can help reduce pain, improve tissue mobility, and enhance muscular performance.

Gaining strength requires a balance of breaking muscle down and building it back up stronger.

Blood Flow Restriction Training

In order to make significant gains in strength we need to perform high intensity resistance training, but this type of exercise may not be right for everyone.

Blood flow restriction training offers a different approach to building strength.

By occluding blood flow to the limb we mimic the effects of high intensity training while performing at lower intensities to achieve similar results in strength.

This type of training may be appropriate for people with:

  • Injury

  • Post-operative surgical procedures

  • Chronic pain

  • Medical comorbidities

BFR can also be combined with a traditional training program to maximize athletic performance.

Strength and Performance Training

One shouldn’t exist without the other. Building strength is essential to recover from injury, and rehab to address movement dysfunction is key to optimizing your workouts.

Strength training programs can be unsuccessful when they don’t take in account factors such as age, gender, injury history, nutrition, fitness level, etc. This is why we won’t offer you a cookie cutter program. Each client is thoroughly assessed so that their program is designed to meet their needs.

An individualized strength and conditioning program which addresses your specific impairments can help improve long term success with performance training.

Feeling pain does not necessarily mean you have to stop performing. The purpose of physical therapy is to keep you strength training in the presence of injury.

Injury Screening

This information helps us make the right training decisions to perform at high levels with reduced risk of injury.

Whether you are already dealing with pain or trying to prevent it, injury screening can help you better understand how to minimize dysfunction to build an effective training program and keep you healthy.

Annual Wellness Check

Yearly screening from your personal physical therapist can identify and treat dysfunction before it develops into pain. These assessments can also help to track your progress over time, to set and achieve new goals, and to make adjustments as needed to your training regimen to keep you performing pain free.

Stay on track by checking in regularly.
